Why returns get lost
The purchase is often recorded on the day of the job. The return happens later, possibly at a different store visit. If it stays only on a card statement, the job continues to look more expensive than it was.
Record the return as a refund
In CostNota, choose Refund while reviewing the receipt. Check the amount and assign it to the job that carried the original cost. The scanned details remain editable, so you can correct the merchant, line items, tax, discounts, and total before saving.
Keep mixed returns clear
If a return includes materials from more than one job, review the individual items and assign each one to the right project. Do not force the entire credit onto the most recent job just because it is easier in the moment.
Use the weekly view as a check
Before sharing a weekly report or deciding whether a job is over budget, look for missing returns. A field record will never replace your accounting records, but recording returns where the cost started makes the job conversation more honest.
